The Psychology and Psychotherapy Service is an integrated service which provides psychological treatments for Brent residents. It offers all the major therapeutic approaches, which include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Family and Systemic therapy and Art therapy. Individual and group therapy programmes are offered on an outpatient basis with varied lengths of therapy programmes. Psychological therapy is also provided in the Inpatient Wards as well as part of multi-disciplinary teams such as CMHTs, Assertive Outreach and Crisis Resolution teams. There is a comprehensive therapy provision in the Local Secure Service as well as in the Rehabilitation and Supporting People's service.
The main aim of the service is to make psychological treatment accessible and fair. Services are provided in our main base as well as in different locations within Brent such as CMHT offices, at the Mental Health Unit (Park Royal) and in some GP surgeries.
The service offers comprehensive assessment and treatment provisions as well as a supervision and consultation service. It is committed to teach and train Clinical Psychologists, Psychotherapists and Junior Doctors (Psychiatrists) engaged in professional training by offering short and long term placements to offer therapy under supervision.
Referrals: a single point of entry of referrals is in operation. Referrals from GPs and other sources are received via the Assessment Teams where Psychologists and Psychotherapists are present to offer assessment and advice. Referrals are also received internally from Psychiatrists and other Mental Health Workers.
