Brent Child and Family Clinic offers a service to all children from ages 0-18 (or those still in full-time education) who live in Brent or have a Brent GP.
The type of difficulties dealt with by the team include:
-
Eating, sleeping or toileting problems
-
Temper tantrums
-
School refusal
-
Bullying
-
Hyperactivity or poor concentration
-
Challenging behaviour
-
Emotional and behavioural problems related to learning difficulties, physical illness or disability, anxiety and depression and very rarely serious mental illness such as psychosis
-
Family relationship issues and post-natal depression in mothers can also be considered
For such a wide range of problems, the team offers a variety of treatments, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, family therapy, individual and group psychotherapy. Medication is also used when appropriate and carefully monitored by the doctors. Therapy may be open-ended or for a fixed period.
Some families are seen at local medical centres whilst others are seen at Warranty House.
The Brent Child and Family Service works closely with Social Services, the Education Department, other health professionals, Brent Adolescent Centre and Brent's Family Service Unit. Some posts are jointly funded with these other agencies.
Families and young people cannot refer themselves to the service. They should ask their GP, social worker, health visitor, school or other professional to make a referral.
