The Child, Family and Young People’s service at Parkside Clinic offers assessment and treatment for children or young people up to the age of 18 suffering from emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties. A multi-disciplinary team staffs the service and treatments include family therapy, individual child psychotherapy, group and individual art therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and parental support. An Adult Psychotherapy Service is also based at Parkside and there are close links between the two departments.
Referrals are accepted from professionals in health, social services, education and the voluntary sector. Referrals from parents and self-referrals are also actively encouraged. The team try to offer an initial assessment within four weeks, though after this there may sometimes be a wait for a particular form of treatment.
There is a walk-in counselling service for young people aged between 13 and 25, which takes place from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesdays.
The Parental Mental Health Service (a partnership between CNWL and NSPCC) works with families where one or both parents suffer from mental illness. A joint NSPCC/CNWL Assessment Service offers multi-disciplinary assessments of children and families where there are serious child protection or child welfare concerns, which have led to them being in a court process.
