Service Description
This is a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency community team offering both a specialist and a generalist service based in Chelsea. It serves the population of South Kensington and Chelsea and South Westminster.
The areas of specialist intervention are family therapy and family work with parents and children under five years. In addition, the team offers early intervention work in schools, liaison with social services teams, joint work with other professionals, work with Looked After Children, services for refugees, services for children whose carers have mental health problems and children who have suffered from abuse. The age range is 0-18 years.
Referrals are accepted from parents and from professionals. An outreach service to professionals in the community is provided by members of the multi-disciplinary team to South Kensington and Chelsea and South Westminster. Referrals are discussed at the referral meeting, are acknowledged within five working days and are given an indication of their likely waiting time to be seen (usually within three to four working weeks). Referrals are prioritised and urgent cases are seen earlier if required.
The service provides assessment and treatment in the following ways: short term and long-term individual psychotherapy, family therapy, cognitive behavioural interventions, psychotherapeutic consultations to parents and couples.
