Service Description

Roxbourne ComplexThe Roxbourne Complex consists of two 14-bedded units providing 24-hour support and rehabilitation for 32 clients with enduring mental health needs. The aim of the service is to initiate behavioural lifestyle changes, which will enable clients to live more independently in a community setting. The units are situated in their own landscaped gardens in South Harrow.

Clients can be referred from within the borough, from any member of the multi-disciplinary team, (age 18-65). Suitable clients would have enduring problems relating to their long-term mental health difficulties. Specific rehabilitation needs may include 'self neglecting' socially unacceptable behaviour, lack of accessibility / communication, need for structure and limit-setting. We would not be able to accept people with a primary diagnosis of a learning difficulty, primary drug / alcohol abuse, persistent aggressive behaviour, signs of progressive organic dementia, or active self-harming or suicidal behaviour.

Clients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) will not be excluded from Roxbourne House or Lodge. A clients-focused day service is provided to enable clients to develop meaningful roles and relationships, to participate in therapeutic activities and to access community facilities. The service seeks to assist clients in learning or re-learning basic skills and developing the confidence required for more independent living.

On site is No. 43 Rayners Lane, which is a 5-bedded rehabilitation unit, providing supported 'bedsit-style' accommodation for people with severe and enduring mental health problems. Residents of No.43 will have already acquired basic community living skills and have the potential to move on to more independent living.

The therapeutic approach within the house is flexible and responsive to individual needs and seeks to empower the clients and promote further independence. Because of the increased level of responsibility and autonomy given to clients in this part of the service, it would be inappropriate to accept clients who are formally detained under the MHA (1983).
