The Psychological Therapies Service is a joint service offered by the Clinical Psychology and Medical Psychotherapy departments. It offers a psychological consultation and treatment service for people between the ages of 16 & 65, living in South Kensington and Chelsea. It aims for equal access for all local residents and abides by national standards for training and supervision in the psychotherapies.
Anyone with psychological difficulties may ask to be referred for a consultation. Treatment may be offered within the NHS or other recommendations made. Referrals are generally made through GPs or secondary health care professionals. The initial consultation is very important in helping to decide which treatment, if any, would help most.
All major psychological therapies are available within the service: Psychoanalytic, Cognitive & Behavioural, Systemic, Interpersonal. Different approaches suit different people and even different problems in the same person. They can almost all be offered in a variety of settings, including individual therapy, group therapy, couple therapy and family therapy. There is a specialist service for people who have suffered from trauma or abuse, and one for Young Adults. A Patient Information leaflet is available, on request.
