We believe that our service users, carers and staff are unique individuals and our approach is to work in partnership together. We will therefore:

  1. Respect service users and carers in the way we behave, what we say, and how we say it, recognising their cultural richness and diversity.
  2. Get to know service users and carers as individuals, without making assumptions. We will learn from them about their culture, history, strengths, interests and aspirations, and value these.
  3. Engage with service users and make time for purposeful conversation and meaningful things to do which they feel will aid their recovery and improve their lives.
  4. Listen to service users and carers and learn from what they say - especially their experience of mental health issues, their preferences for treatment, and their concerns about the effects of treatment.
  5. Make decisions jointly, where appropriate, with service users and carers, giving them the information they need to make informed choices.

These Core Values were developed in consultation with service users, carers, Trust staff and managers. They represent the behaviour service users and carers can expect of Trust staff; and they provide a guide to Trust staff on what is expected of them.
