Service description:
The Community Day Service provides a service which promotes recovery and re-engagement for individuals aged between 18 and 65 with severe Mental Health difficulties through the provision of a range of community focussed and leisure activities using psychological, social, occupational and practical interventions.
The 7 days a week service is run from two buildings, one in the North and one in the South of Westminster. As well as using the buildings themselves for social activities such as the popular drop-in cafes (including some out of hours drop-ins including provision at 26 Newman St), therapeutic and learning groups, there are good links with a variety of local community venues and services.
The service offers practical and physical activities such as
· horticulture
· multi-skills groups
· walking groups
· catering training
· art therapy
· individual and group complementary therapies
· women's drop-in
· Black and Minority Ethnic drop-in
The staff are committed to the principle of Social Inclusion and strongly support users in accessing social, leisure and vocational activities such as bowling, snooker, swimming and adult education opportunities, alongside day trips and visits to activities and events within London.
Referrals come via the local Community Mental Health Teams and each prospective service user will have an initial assessment to determine how best the service can meet his or her needs. They will then participate in drawing up their own personal plan, which will be regularly reviewed and monitored.
