The Crisis Resolution Team (CRT) is a multidisciplinary, community-based mental health team that aims to provide a safe and effective home-based assessment and treatment service as an alternative to in-patient care. The team is integrated with other local service providers. The team operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for residents of Brent with serious and enduring mental illness who are experiencing a crisis. This crisis is of a nature or degree that would require admission in the absence of the CRT, or likely to lead to deterioration, which would warrant admission in the future.
The key features of the service are that it is mobile, responds quickly and acts as a gatekeeper to in-patient services. The workload of the CRT is team-based; members do not have a caseload. Care by the team is usually provided for 4-6 week. Any other healthcare professionals involved with service users, for example community mental health teams and assertive outreach teams, will continue to provide ongoing care during the CRT's intervention.
