Gender Equality

The Trust has published its first Gender Equality Scheme in April 2007 for the period 2007-10. In meeting its obligations under the Equality Act 2006, the Trust welcomes the Scheme's publication and the areas of emphasis within the Gender Action Plan that the Scheme addresses. The Scheme underlines the Trust's commitment to Gender Equality both as an employer and as a provider of services. Equality Impact Assessment

An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) is required to be undertaken on all new policies and service developments. It is also required on existing policies every three years as part of an on-going programme of policy review.

An Equality Impact Assessment is a systematic approach to finding out whether a policy (or proposed policy), or a service development/change affects, or is likely to affect, different groups of people in different ways. It therefore provides a structured approach to assessing policies for ‘adverse impact’ on any particular group of people. The groups that are considered when undertaking Equality Impact assessment are race/ethnicity, disability, gender, age, sexual orientation and religion/faith.

The Trust undertakes a ‘generic’ Equality Impact Assessment, addressing all of the six areas outlined above within a single Equality Impact Assessment process. The Trust has an Equality Impact Assessment Policy that has been ratified by the Trust’s Clinical Governance Committee and implemented Trust-wide.

The Trust is also producing annual Equality Impact Assessment reports.
