This is a weekly multi-family group for parents and pre-school children. It is facilitated by Rikie Salman (Primary Mental Health Worker) and a Health Visitor. It offers an opportunity for parents to help each other find creative solutions to parenting difficulties.

The most common problems discussed in the group are:

  • adjusting to being a parent
  • post-natal depression and the impact on forming early relationship with the baby
  • parental disagreements regarding styles of parenting
  • trans-generational conflicts
  • cultural expectations, and
  • loss of confidence in being a parent.

The group runs for a block of six weeks at a time. This gives the parents a flavour of what it involves without asking for a long commitment. At the end of the six weeks there is the option of attending further set of sessions. At each block the parents identify for themselves one issue they want to work on.
